A few weeks ago my editor sent me the little blurb the marketing department at Kensington created for my novel. How fun is that? This is the copy that will appear on retail sites for its release as an ebook. When it’s printed, this will be the cover blurb.
I must admit, it gives me a delighted shiver to know that a marketing department is actually putting time and effort into this. I know, I know, that’s their job. But still–this is just my little ol’ book!
Anyway, here’s the blurb for A BEAUTIFUL HEIST, first in the Agency of Burglary & Theft series:
Everyone has a talent. Some are just more legal than others. Cat Montgomery steals jewels for AB&T, the premier agency for thieves in Seattle. Career perks: good pay, great disguises, constant adrenaline rush. Drawbacks: the possibility of jail time…or worse. Now she’s taken on a lucrative side job—recovering a priceless Faberge egg for an alleged Romanov descendant.
Though Cat is working solo, there are plenty of interested players. Her FBI ex-boyfriend is nosing around, as is her former mentor-turned-nemesis. Then there’s the charming art thief helping—or is he hindering?—her mission. If her luck holds out, this could be the case that allows Cat to retire with her conscience and her life intact. If not, it’ll be her last job for all the wrong reasons…
So just as I was getting used to the thrill of reading my book blurb, my editor sent me a file with my cover image! I had been seriously sweating this one out so it was with a great degree of apprehension that I opened the file. Here it is:
Is it my dream cover? Well…maybe not exactly. But I do like it. And I think it’s pretty fun. I believe it portrays the tone of the book rather well–let’s face it, I’m not going for the Man Booker on this one. My story is meant to be a fun caper about a professional jewel thief, with dashes of romance and suspense. Think Ocean’s Eleven meets Stephanie Plum, and you’ll have the general idea.
A couple of days after sending me the cover image, Peter sent me the link to my book’s page on Amazon. Yep, my book is actually on Amazon. And Barnes & Noble. (And Amazon Canada, too, my Canadian comrades.) Still waiting for Chapters/Indigo and kobo.
Point is, you can actually pre-order my book now, on any of those sites. How cool is that? It will be released on June 6, 2013, and because it’s being released as an e-book first, it’s got a fabulous sticker price. With fewer than four months to go, now, well…you could say I’m actually starting to feel like this is really happening.
